With the H.A.M.B. Drags coming this weekend, I figured it was appropriate to feature a vintage drag car of some kind. I dug through my vintage archives looking for something unique to rap about and came across the above ‘32 roadster. I have no idea where the images came from and am not clear on all the details, but the car’s character won me over… and here we are…
Included in the directory with these fives images was a text file with the following data:
- John Hanson. North Bend, Oregon
- ‘55 Chrysler Hemi rapped to 8,500 RPM
- Herbert Cam, Joe Hunt Mag, Jahns pop-ups, 14 to 1 compression, 6 ‘97 carbs
- ‘41 Cadillac gear box
- Lincoln brakes
- Pirelli recaps
- Turned 120.67 mph at McMinnville, Oregon in 1960
- Painted stock Chrysler Naples Orange
The pictures, as poor as they are, provide a few more details. It looks like that old Caddy gearbox is shifted through an early Vette shifter, a Halibrand quick change makes gear selection simple, and a Bell 4-spoke handles the direction.
The little roadster is a perfect example of simplicity - big motor, little everything else. Haul ass with purpose.
